Teacher Spotlight - Kelsey Dumas, Kindergarten | Schedule a Tour

Hello! My name is Kelsey Dumas, and I am a Kindergarten teacher here at Burk Elementary School. I have been teaching for 11 years, and I truly love working with early learners as they build the foundation for their entire educational journey.

My favorite thing about Kindergarten is watching the incredible growth students make in such a short amount of time. I love their curiosity, their excitement, and the way they find joy in even the smallest accomplishments. Helping my students develop confidence in themselves as learners is what makes this job so rewarding.

One of my favorite moments from this school year was helping a student finish a book this last quarter. When they realized they could truly read it all on their own, they were beaming with pride! Seeing that confidence grow in real-time is exactly why I love teaching this grade.

It’s not uncommon for the beginning of the year to bring a few tears—and I know that can be hard for parents to see! But remember, those moments don’t last forever. Celebrate your child’s efforts rather than perfection. Reading together every day and keeping learning simple and positive at home will help them grow more comfortable and independent.

I am passionate about growing as an educator. In fact, I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and will graduate in December 2026! When I’m not studying or in the classroom, I stay balanced and inspired by traveling, cooking, and working out.
