Welcome to my webpage. I am delighted that you would like to know more about me and my classroom.
As you already know, my name is Jill Burdge. I am a product of Gilbert Schools myself having graduated from Houston Elementary, Gilbert Junior High, and Highland High School. It is a great honor to teach in the same school district that I received my education. This is a great district and I am proud to be a part of it. This is my 12th year teaching in the Gilbert School District and my 6th year at Burk as a Title I Math Specialist. I have been a 4th grade teacher, as well as a 7th grade math teacher in the past, but being a math specialist at Burk has been my favorite position of all.
Burk Elementary School is proud to be a Title I school. Not all schools in the Gilbert School district are fortunate enough to have a Math Specialist. In fact only Title I schools receive additional funding to hire a Math Specialist. The best news of all is Burk does not have only one Math Specialist but two!
The Math Lab at Burk is run by both Lori Rogers and myself. We are able to service approximately 16 students per grade level with highly effective math intervention strategies. In our classroom students work on individualized computer based math programs such as SuccessMaker and Reflex Math. They also are able to sit with a highly qualified math specialist for small group intensive intervention. The small groups typically have a ratio of one teacher for every four students. If your child comes to the Math Lab for intervention, they are super fortunate to be receiving such individualized attention. Student eligibility to be serviced is based on multiple sets of data. It is our aim to service the students who need us most.
