Welcome to Orchestra!
Students are given a choice of music class when they get to fifth grade. Orchestra is one of their choices. In this class, the students may choose to learn the violin, viola, cello or bass. Sixth Grade Orchestra is a second year experience for students who already have had one year of experience on their instrument. Both grades perform in two school concerts, one in November/December and one in April/May. The Sixth Grade Orchestra also performs in the annual Sixth Grade Strings Festival held in late January or early February each year.

About Me

Mrs. Lucas is in her second year of teaching after graduating from Northern Arizona University in 2014 where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Instrumental Music Education with an emphasis in Strings. She studied under Dr. Louise Scott, concertmaster for the Arizona Opera and Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, and also became certified in the Suzuki Pedagogy Method. In addition to teaching public school, Mrs. Lucas teaches a private lesson studio in her home. She regularly plays violin at her church and for various other events. She has also performed with several symphony orchestras including: White Mountain Symphony Orchestra, NAU Symphony Orchestra, and Flagstaff Master Chorale and Orchestra. Mrs. Lucas is a member of the American String Teachers Association as well. In her spare time, she enjoys running, hiking, traveling, baking and, of course, playing her violin!
